The Power of Plants

Many people tend to underestimate the power of plants.

In this picture alone, the healing power of at least ten different plant medicines can be seen. From powdered bark to flowers, seeds, leaves, and roots - we have much to learn from these amazing gifts of the earth. Herbal medicine has been around for thousands of years. Chances are you have many of these healing plants right in your kitchen cabinet or garden.

In the spoons I have:

Turmeric powder - Anti-inflammatory, wound healing, anti-cancer, immune-system support

Chamomile flowers - Calming, anti-inflammatory, digestive support, wound healing, anti-anxiety

Matcha powder - Supports immune health, blood sugar support, healthy aging, anti-cancer, liver supportive, relaxed alertness

Ground Cinnamon - Blood sugar support, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, powerful antioxidant, neuroprotective

Fenugreek Seeds - Blood sugar support, improves breast milk production, supports healthy hormone levels, anti-inflammatory

And in the surrounds:

Ginger root - Anti-nausea, supports digestion, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, muscle soothing (against cramps, for example),

Garlic - Antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant

Cilantro - Supports healthy detoxification (including heavy metal detox), natural sedative effects, blood sugar support, digestion

Lavender - Calming (helps relax the brain), helps reduce stress, anti-inflammatory, supports wound healing and decreases itchy skin

Mint - Supports digestion, anti-inflammatory, may help with irritable bowel, helps against bad breath

Crushed Red Pepper - Anti-inflammatory, produces heat, support heart health, healthy metabolism, immune-supportive

Of course, there are hundreds, if not thousands, more herbs and plants to mention, but I grabbed what I had literally at my fingertips. It's nice to keep at least a few plant medicines nearby so that you can use them as needed.

I'm happy to discuss what herbs may be best to support your overall health and well-being goals. Again, best to work with someone trained in natural healing modalities before self-diagnosing and treating with any kind of medicines.

I have always loved herbal medicine and I especially love that as a naturopathic doctor I have the education and experience of knowing how to respect and properly utilize these powerful healing modalities.
